The AUT Newsroom launches today, with its first group of student journalists already on the hunt for hard-hitting stories.

The newsroom will operate as a fully-functioning newsgathering and online production operation, and will be staffed by students majoring in journalism at the inner city university.

Students will work with journalist in residence, Michelle Coursey, and web editor, Natalie Brittan, to produce news stories, images, video and audio content on a variety of issues affecting Auckland.

The team will publish news stories on website tewahanui.nz, and will work out of a custom-designed, multi-million dollar media centre on the Wellesley Street campus.

It is expected the student journalists will cover a wide range of areas including local body politics, environmental issues, crime and justice, and business stories.

The newsroom will also post content on Facebook and Twitter. Story tips can be sent to the team at twndnt@gmail.com.
