SPORTS DIARY: It's marathon week!

Born to Fight 3

Where: 203 Kohimarama Road, Kohimarama

When: Friday, August 31, 5pm-11.30pm

What: Born to Fight 3 is one of the New Zealand’s biggest martial arts events, including combat boxing, kickboxing and MMA fights. There will be a world-recognised championship title to be grabbed with representatives from New Zealand and China fighting it out.

Warriors v Raiders LIVE at the Fiddler Irish Bar

Where: 71 Victoria Street West, Auckland

When: Friday 30 August, 8-11pm

What: Upset that the Warriors' game against the Raiders has sold out? Worry not. There is another way to celebrate the career of 300-game veteran Simon Mannering. The Fiddler will be screening the game live with free entry.

ASICS Move Club - ASB Auckland Marathon Training

Where: 3 Shortland Street, Auckland.

When: Saturday, September 1, 8-10am

What: These free training runs hosted by running experts from ASICS New Zealand will be marathon-specific, and are designed to help you get race ready ahead of ASB Auckland Marathon race on Sunday, October 28.

NRFL Premier Men’s – Birkenhead United vs Manukau United

Where: Melba Street, Beach Haven, Auckland

When: Saturday, May 5, 7-9pm

What: Birkenhead United have made it to the Chatham Cup Final and will now turn their attentions to the Northern Football Federation League. Birkenhead still have a slim shot at the title but will have to win their last game against 3rd placed Manukau United. BUAFC also need table-toppers Onehunga Sports to falter in their last two games. It’s going down to the wire.

2018 North Shore Marathon

Where: Milford Reserve, Craig Road, Milford, Auckland

When: Sunday, September 2, 5.30am-12noon

What: The North Shore Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and kids marathons will take place on Auckland’s beautiful North Shore and is widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s most scenic marathon and half marathon events.

Sold out for the past six years, attracting over 2000 entrants every year, the marathon has been North Shore’s number one running event.

The course will be based on a 21.1km circuit that will see participants running across Milford, Takapuna, Narrow Neck and Cheltenham beaches. They will then tackle the amazing 1km circuit around Historic North Head using the DOC Tunnels Loop which will be the showcase of the event with Auckland’s best views over the city and out into the Hauraki Gulf to Rangitoto Island.

Father’s Day Drags

Where: Meremere Dragway, Meremere, Auckland

When: Sunday, September 2, 8-5pm.

What: Since 1988, the American Muscle Car Club in Auckland have run their annual Father’s Day Drags on the first Sunday in September. This has grown into a must-attend for car lovers who would love to witness not only American but also Australian Muscle Cars.

NZRL National Secondary Schools Tournament

Where: 7 Beasley Ave, Auckland

When: Monday, September 3 till Friday, September 7, 9am

What: The National Secondary Schools Tournament is New Zealand Rugby League's largest tournament being held September 3-7 at Bruce Pulman Park, Auckland.

A livestream of one game per day will also be available on the New Zealand Rugby League Facebook page (available livestream games to be confirmed). 

Finals day will be broadcasted live on Sky

Introduction to Umpiring

Where: Eden Park, Reimers Ave, Kingsland, Auckland

When: Monday, September 3, 6-7:30pm

What: If you want to be an umpire, and contribute to cricket, then get involved with Auckland's number one summer sport.

A free Introduction to Umpiring sessions should give you the foundation to launch your umpiring career. You will learn basic cricket laws and former international umpire Doug Cowie will guide you through the steps to become an official Auckland Cricket Association umpire.
