Red Beach Park is getting a new pump track for the bike, scooter and skate communities, adding a new entertaining space to the area.
Hibiscus Bays Local Board area manager Sandra May says construction of the track has begun.
“[The track] is underway and is expected to be completed by the beginning of June, dependent on factors such as the weather.”
May says the project was driven by community demand reflecting strong local interest within the coast community.
“The pump track came about due to demand for such a facility in the Red Beach area.”

Community feedback played a key role in the location and showed the support there was for the project, she says.
May says the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board has committed $540,000 to fund the project.
Board chair Alexis Poppelbaum says the progress on the permanent pump track at Red Beach is great to see and is something the community has been asking for.
“This will be a fun, active space where people of all ages can get outdoors, build confidence on bikes and scooters, and connect with others,” she says.
“It will be a place for friends and whānau to come together, watch the riders, and enjoy the park.”
Different tracks for beginners and more confident riders will be built on a smooth asphalt surface.
Meanwhile, the Auckland Council is expected to begin another project in the Hibiscus and Bays area later this year, the Te Oneroa a Kahu / Long Bay Youth Park, which also includes a pump track.
